Arts from the Hearts
What does your heart mean to you? Arts from the Heart is your chance to tell us, and have your photos or thoughts shown across Hull. We are asking members of the public to get involved and make their mark for the heart by entering photos and writing to be exhibited in purpose built display units and on the accompanying website.
Managing the project is Artlink’s Arts Development Worker, Sarah Fisher:
“the heart is such an interesting starting point for a piece of art as it has such different connotations from a vital muscle in the biological sense to more metaphorical meanings linked with love and family depending on the individual. By asking individuals to consider what the Heart is, we are hoping that people will start to recognise how important their own heart is and what good heart health means to people on a personal level.”
Over the next two years our 3 display units will be touring Hull, taking this mass participation arts project out to as many people as possible, with venues such as shopping centres, libraries, sports venues, schools and community centres. At each venue, Artlink will be providing free tailor made workshops designed for their group or venue users based on in either visual arts or creative writing.
One person who has submitted a photo is Dave, 54 from Hull – his photo of a person kicking sand on a beach really represents his own experience, he says
“ when I had a heart bypass it made me realise not to take my heart for granted and to embrace this life”
We are hoping to touch the lives of many more people like Dave and really make a difference in Hull.
The units are currently on display at the Willow North Hull Women’s Centre on Hall Road and Hull College at Queen’s Gardens.
