Volunteer Support Project
The Volunteer Support Project aims to make volunteering more accessible to people who want to become volunteers who may have extra support needs. This could be people who have mental health problems, people recovering from substance misuse drug or alcohol, people with physical and learning disabilities, ex-offenders, or people who come from an ethnic minority and whose first language is not English.
The project works with both volunteers and organisations to break down the barriers to volunteering and make the experience the best it can be.
The project will offer to support the volunteer in a variety of different ways: They can undertake the 3 day Introduction to Volunteering training course. Once this has been completed we can support them in finding the right volunteering opportunities and if they want us to, we will also support them in contacting and attending an interview. We also provide on-going support if this is what the volunteer wants throughout their volunteering experience.
The project also recruits and trains Volunteer Mentors who can offer further support and encouragement in building confidence and goal setting.
The project aims to develop volunteering opportunities with organisations as well and the project can advise organisations on how best to support volunteers that they work with.
The project can provide volunteering health checks; help with volunteering policies and procedures and where appropriate, provide free training in managing volunteers.
We also offer a support network and training for organisations through our Volunteer Management Programme and access to additional support through the Humber Volunteer Manager’s Network.
